Babson Park, FL – The 10th ranked Webber International Men's Lacrosse team dropped a 22-8 decision to Keiser on Saturday afternoon in Appalachian Athletic Conference action at the Warrior Turf Field. The Seahawks built a 6-0 lead midway through the opening quarter and never let up, using a 10-goal third period to pull away from the Warriors. Webber honored seniors Branden Sheaffer, Liam Murphy, Israel Miranda, Jacob Trickler, Jeremiah Loo, Sam Shields, Cameron Paleski, Jack Polomsky, and Nick Sheaffer in a pregame Senior Day Ceremony.
After falling behind early, Webber answered with a late spark in the first quarter. Isaiah Espaillat put the Warriors on the board with a man-up goal at the 2:29 mark off a feed from Sam Shields, and Shields followed just over a minute later with an even-strength score from Nick Sheaffer to trim the deficit to 6-2 heading into the second.
The Warriors stayed within striking distance for a moment in the second quarter when Shields found the net again with 6:04 left in the half, this time off an assist from Espaillat, making it 6-3. Keiser, however, answered with back-to-back goals over the final 5:29 of the period to take an 8-3 lead into halftime.
Webber showed fight coming out of the break despite the final margin. Just nine seconds after Keiser opened the third-quarter scoring, Shields scored a short-handed goal off an assist from Israel Miranda to make it 9-4. Later in the quarter, Espaillat added his second goal of the day on the power play off another assist from Shields, and Dane Angelillis scored with 41 seconds remaining in the frame off a pass from Miranda. Still, Keiser exploded for 10 goals in the quarter and carried an 18-6 lead into the fourth.
In the final period, Shields completed a four-goal afternoon with 6:29 remaining off an assist from Malachi LaRue, and Sheaffer added Webber's final goal with 44 seconds left. Shields led the Warriors with four goals and two assists, while Espaillat finished with two goals and an assist. Miranda added two assists and won 12 faceoffs, and Dontaye Wallace kept battling in goal with 16 saves.
