Babson Park, FL – The 12th ranked Webber International Baseball team fell in both games of Friday's SUN Conference doubleheader with Southeastern, with a late rally falling short for a 7-6 loss in the opener before the Fire took a commanding 19-7 victory in game two. In the first game, the Warriors erased a 7-3 deficit with a three-run seventh-inning push, while Southeastern used a series of crooked numbers early in the nightcap to take control.
In game one, Southeastern grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Webber answered right away in the bottom half. The Warriors tied it on a Mike Cuello RBI single that brought home Tugg Hollandsworth, then broke through again in the fourth when Austen Jaslove ripped a two-run double to score Jalen Martinez and Cuello for a 3-2 advantage.
The Fire responded with a five-run sixth inning to move back in front 7-3, but Webber had one last gasp. In the seventh, Keegan Martin worked a leadoff walk, and Mike Cuello hit a three-runhomer to keep the Warriors alive. Steven Nitch singled and Jaslove followed with another hit, but a flyout to the left fielder ended Webber's late rally.
Martinez and Jaslove led the way in game one with the three-run homer for three RBIs, two hits and two RBIs respectively, while Cuello also scored twice.
In game two, Southeastern came out swinging and put Webber in an early hole with four runs in the first and seven more in the second. The Fire added on in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to stretch the lead to 19-1 before the Warriors showed life late. Webber's first run came in the second when David Zamora singled through the left side to bring home Jalen Martinez.
The Warriors made the final score more respectable with a six-run seventh inning. Webber loaded the bases and got RBI production from multiple bats, including a run-scoring single by Case McClelland, an RBI walk by Fabian Amaro, and a two-run fielder's choice off the bat of David Zamora as the home side pushed across six in the inning. Even with the late offensive burst, Southeastern held on for the 19-7 win.
Webber collected 11 hits in the nightcap as well, with Jalen Martinez, Will Gisriel, and Zamora helping pace the offense. The Warriors showed resilience by continuing to battle in the final inning, but Southeastern's 14-hit attack and early run support proved too much to overcome.
