Salt Lake City, UT – The Webber International Weightlifting team competed at the USA Weightlifting Collegiate Nationals from April 8th to April 12th. The Warriors brought three lifters who all finished well, including a bronze medal, while as a team finished 19th in the country.
Tayler Barberree competed in the 48kg weight class for the Warriors. Her best snatch was at 41 kg, and her best clean and jerk was at 55 kg, giving her a total weight lifted of 96 kg. Her totals kept her at third in her weight class, beating three other lifters by 1 kg, securing her mark as the third best lifter in the country at 48 kg, and being awarded a bronze medal as a freshman.
Malique Wallace competed in the 94 kg weight class. He opened up his snatch with a 92 kg lift, before progressing to 98 kg, and finishing off with a 105 kg snatch. For clean and jerk, his first lift went up at 122 kg, and he finished with a 127 kg lift. His total for the two events was 232 kg. Wallace lifted in the second tier group, where his total was good for third, where he also lifted two new prs, beating out the person behind him by 1 kg.
William Brown was the final Warrior to compete, where he lifted in the heavyweight category. His opening snatch went for 103 kg, and his best went up at 110. For clean and jerk, Brown opened up with a 138 kg lift, before ending at 149 kg. Brown was the 10th best lifter in his weight class, lifting a total of 259 kgs, beating out 11th by nine.
After the competition, Head Coach Tristan Scheller was proud of his athletes and their results, especially as a first year program.
"I am super proud of the hard work that these kids have put in all year. They really busted their butts to get to the national stage and put us in a great position to keep growing for next year.
