Babson Park, FL — The Webber International Softball team used a steady offensive attack and a dominant outing in the circle from Taylor Thomas to roll past Calumet College of Saint Joseph, 9-1, in five innings on Wednesday afternoon at Babson Park. The Warriors scored in four of the five innings, finishing with nine runs on nine hits while limiting Calumet to just three hits in the win.
Webber wasted little time getting on the board in the bottom of the first. Sommer Zier-Norris singled, Thalia Romero followed with a double to right center, and Emma Newgent brought home the game's first run with a sacrifice fly to left, giving the Warriors an early 1-0 advantage.
After Calumet briefly tied the game with a run in the top of the third, Webber answered immediately with its biggest inning of the day. The Warriors pushed four runs across in the bottom half, highlighted by Samantha Hudson's two-run single through the right side. Webber continued to add on from there, scoring twice in the fourth and twice more in the fifth to put the game away.
The Warriors got production throughout the lineup. Zier-Norris and Romero each collected two hits, with Zier-Norris scoring twice and driving in one, while Romero doubled and added an RBI. Hudson drove in a team-high two runs, and Aliyah Bentley also knocked in two while swiping three bases. Newgent and Abigayle Ellison each added an RBI as part of Webber's balanced offensive effort.
In the circle, Thomas was in control from start to finish. She tossed all five innings, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out nine and walking only one. Defensively, Webber backed her up well and kept Calumet from mounting any sustained threat at the plate.
