Babson Park, FL – The 8th ranked Webber International Baseball team split Tuesday's doubleheader with Grand View, falling 7-4 in the opener before responding with a 15-1, seven-inning win in game two.
Grand View struck first in the opening game with an RBI single in the top of the first, but the Warriors answered right back in the bottom half when Ty Mathews shot an RBI single to center to plate Keegan Martin and tie it at 1-1. The Vikings added a runs in the third to take a 3-1 edge, then broke things open with a four-run fifth to push the lead to 6-1.
Webber made its move in the bottom of the fifth, stringing together a three-run inning to cut the deficit to 6-4. Mathews drove in two with a single and Jalen Martinez followed with an RBI of his own, but Grand View's bullpen closed the door from there. Martin scored twice in the opener, drawing three walks, while Mathews finished with three RBIs. On the mound, Ryan Franklin struck out six across two innings of work for the Warriors.
In the nightcap, Webber flipped the script in a big way, jumping out to an 8-0 lead after one inning and never looking back. The Warriors piled up 15 runs on 13 hits, adding runs in each of the next four innings while the pitching staff kept Grand View off the board until a lone run in the fourth.
Keegan Martin sparked the offense with a 3-for-4 day, scoring twice and driving in three, while Steven Nitch went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Mike Cuello drove in two, and the Warriors were aggressive on the bases all afternoon, swiping eight bags in the seven-inning contest.
Jalen Martinez earned the win on the mound with three scoreless innings, and Noah Schoncheck finished it off with three shutout frames in relief as Webber secured the 15-1 run-rule victory to salvage the split.
