Babson Park, FL — The Webber International Softball team split its Saturday conference softball doubleheader against St. Thomas, falling 10-0 in six innings in game one before responding with a 4-1 victory in game two. After being shut out in the opener, the Warriors answered with early offense and a dominant start from Taylor Thomas to earn the split. The Warriors win in game two today secured the SUN Conference series victory.
St. Thomas took control of the opener with a five-run second inning, then added two runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to secure the 10-0 win in six innings. Webber was kept off the scoreboard in game one as the Bobcats' pitching staff held the Warriors in check throughout the afternoon.
Webber flipped the momentum quickly in game two. After Sommer Zier-Norris was retired to open the bottom of the first, Thalia Romero singled and later came home when Sami Franz delivered a two-out RBI single to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
The Warriors kept building from there and finished with four runs on 10 hits. Romero helped set the tone at the top of the order, while Webber's lineup continued to pressure St. Thomas throughout the game. In the fifth inning, Samantha Hudson singled, Kaylee Phillips came on to pinch run, stole second, and eventually scored as Webber added an insurance run to make it 4-1.
Thomas did the rest in the circle. She went the distance for Webber, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out nine in the complete-game win. St. Thomas scored its lone run in the fourth, but Thomas kept the Bobcats from doing any further damage as the Warriors closed out the split.
