Warriors Fall in Game 3, Swept by Mariners

Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Softball dropped a 5-2 decision to Coastal Georgia on Saturday in Sun Conference action. The Warriors were limited to eight hits, while Coastal Georgia used an 11-hit afternoon and a three-run fifth inning to pull away, where the Mariners came away with the series sweep.

Coastal Georgia broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third, but Webber answered in the fourth to even things up at 1-1. The Warriors picked up their first run after Dominica Kohout came home on a wild pitch, giving Webber life in the middle innings. Coastal Georgia responded with its biggest frame in the fifth, plating three runs to seize control before adding an insurance run in the seventh. Webber scratched across one more run in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally stopped there.

Emma Newgent led the Warriors at the plate with a 2-for-4 day and an RBI, while Sommer Zier-Norris, Thalia Romero, Samantha Hudson, Kaylee McKinney, Sami Franz, and Maddy Lee each added a hit. Webber also got run-producing efforts from Newgent and continued pressure on the bases and in scoring situations, but stranded eight runners in the loss.

In the circle, Abigayle Ellison got the start, and Kaylee McKinney also saw time as Webber worked through the Coastal Georgia lineup. Defensively, the Warriors played a clean game with no errors, and Hudson threw out two would-be base stealers behind the plate.

Coastal Georgia was paced by Emma Jones, who scored three runs and reached base three times, while Rylee Mills starred both in the circle and at the plate. Mills tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on eight hits, and also finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
