Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Men's Basketball team fell to the Florida Memorial Lions in SUN Conference action Saturday afternoon. The Lions were strong to end both halves, taking down the Warriors 82-74.
Webber jumped out early and built its largest lead of the day at 17-7 with 12:05 left in the first half, but Florida Memorial answered with a surge to take control. The Lions carried a 43-34 advantage into the break after shooting 56.3% in the opening half.
The Warriors trimmed the margin early in the second half and hung within striking distance, but Florida Memorial created separation midway through the period. A key 11-0 run over a little more than two minutes pushed the Lions' lead to as many as 16 (81-65) with 2:31 remaining. Webber closed the gap late behind a 3-pointer from Mikel Forrest and baskets from Iverson Plaza, but couldn't get closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Nirobi Peeler Jr. paced Webber with 23 points, knocking down seven 3-pointers. Johnny Torrence Jr. added 16 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Landon Tillman finished with 10 points and five assists. As a team, Webber hit 12 triples and shot 57.1% from beyond the arc (12-of-21), while going 22-of-27 at the line.
Florida Memorial was led by Devin Carter's 26 points, with Sehmaj Mentor (15), Aa'reyon Munir-Jones (13) and Cameron Noel (11) also in double figures. The Lions shot 56.4% from the field, won the rebounding battle 28-20, and forced 14 Webber turnovers on the strength of 10 steals.
