Babson Park, FL. – Webber International picked up a wire-to-wire win Wednesday night, pulling away in the middle quarters to defeat Fort Lauderdale, 71-41, at home.
The Warriors set the tone defensively early, taking a 9-5 lead after one and limiting the Eagles to five points in the opening period. Fort Lauderdale trimmed the gap in the second quarter, but Webber answered to take a 32-20 advantage into halftime.
Webber broke the game open out of the break, outscoring the Eagles 27-11 in the third quarter to build a 59-31 cushion. The Warriors' pressure fueled the surge, turning takeaways into transition chances while controlling the paint to keep Fort Lauderdale from finding a rhythm the rest of the way.
Jaiden Ross led Webber with 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks, while Sophya Barreiro added 10 points. Janaina Goncalves, Taleah Jones and Jiyah Hamilton each finished with eight points. Camryn Patterson stuffed the stat sheet with seven rebounds, four assists and five steals as Webber finished with 22 assists, 14 steals and eight blocks.
Webber shot 27-of-62 from the field and dominated the interior (46 points in the paint), adding 22 points off turnovers and 45 bench points. Fort Lauderdale was led by Amelia Gatson's nine points and 12 rebounds, as the Eagles were held to 9-of-59 shooting. Webber improves to 11-11 (5-6) on the season.
