Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Men's Volleyball team opened Appalachian Athletic Conference play with a 3-0 loss to St. Thomas (FL) Tuesday night in Babson Park, falling by set scores of 25-10, 25-22, 25-20.
St. Thomas controlled the opener with a .529 hitting percentage in the first set while Webber was held to seven kills and hit -.080, as the Bobcats jumped out early and never looked back in the 25-10 win.
The Warriors responded with their best stretch of the night in set two, trading points deep into the frame. Webber pulled even multiple times and briefly took momentum with a mid-set push, eventually knotting the score at 22-22. St. Thomas, however, closed on a 3-0 run to take the set 25-22 and move ahead 2-0.
Webber again showed fight in the third set after a tough start, settling in offensively and improving to a .148 hitting clip with 10 kills. The Warriors cut into the deficit late, but St. Thomas stayed composed and finished off the sweep with a 25-20 decision.
Individually, Brennan Porter led Webber with 8 kills, followed by Janis Dobelis with 7. Noah Riascos anchored the back row with 10 digs, while setter Talan Stephens paced the offense with 19 assists and added Webber's lone service ace. As a team, Webber totaled 29 kills, 29 digs, and 5.0 blocks, while St. Thomas hit .342 with 9 aces in the match.
