Warriors Split Doubleader with Mustangs

Babson Park, FL – The 8th ranked Webber International Baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader with Mount Mercy in Babson Park, dropping a 9–8 decision in the opener before bouncing back with a 7–2 win in the nightcap.

Game 1 – Mount Mercy 9, Webber 8 (7 innings)

Webber struck first and carried a 3–0 lead through four innings behind timely swings from the middle of the order. David Zamora drove in the game's first run with an RBI single in the second, Mike Cuello added a sacrifice fly in the third, and Jalen Martinez launched a solo homer in the fourth to give the Warriors breathing room.

Mount Mercy flipped the game with a seven-run fifth, turning the deficit into a 7–3 advantage. The Mustangs tacked on insurance in the sixth and seventh, but Webber answered with a furious rally in its final at-bat. The Warriors plated five runs in the seventh to pull within one, highlighted by a two-run double from Matty Davis and continued pressure that forced defensive miscues.

Tugg Hollandsworth powered the offense with a perfect 4-for-4 game (two doubles, two runs), while Martinez finished 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. On the mound, Austin Dobbins worked 4.1 innings, and Webber's bullpen combined to cover the final frames as the Warriors' late push came up just short.

Game 2 – Webber 7, Mount Mercy 2

Webber responded immediately in the second game, erupting for a four-run second inning to seize control. Skyler Schulz opened the scoring with an RBI double, and Keegan Martin delivered the big blow with a two-run homer to cap the inning and make it 4–0.

The Warriors kept adding on: an unearned run in the third stretched the lead to 5–0, Martinez drove in another with an RBI double in the seventh, and Hollandsworth punctuated the day with an inside the park home run in the eighth. Martinez went 2-for-4 with two RBI, Cuello added two hits (including a triple) and scored twice, and Webber swiped four bases to stay aggressive on the bases.

On the mound, Mason Veronezi turned in a strong start, going six innings while allowing two unearned runs on three hits. Brandon Vazquez closed the door with three scoreless innings out of the bullpen and earning the save, as Webber secured the split.
