Warriors Split Doubleheader with Nighthawks

Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Softball team split a nonconference doubleheader with Thomas University on Sunday afternoon, walking off Game 1 in extra innings before the Night Hawks pulled away with a six-run ninth to take Game 2.

Game 1 – Webber 1, Thomas 0 (8)

The opener turned into a classic pitching duel as both staffs traded zeroes deep into extras. Taylor Thomas went the distance in the circle, scattering seven hits over 8.0 shutout innings while striking out eight to keep the Night Hawks off the board.

With the game still scoreless in the bottom of the eighth, Webber finally broke through. Sommer Zier-Norr set the table and came around to score the winning run when Thalia Romero lined a walk-off RBI single to left field, giving the Warriors a 1-0 win.

Romero paced the offense with a 3-for-4 day, while Abigayle Ellison added two hits in the shutout victory.

Game 2 – Thomas 9, Webber 3 (9)

Webber answered early in the nightcap and battled back twice to force extra innings. After Thomas struck first with an RBI single in the third, the Warriors responded in the bottom half when Alissa Aguirre scored on Aliyah Bentley's RBI fielder's choice to make it 1-1.

Webber grabbed a 2-1 lead in the fifth as Aguirre crossed again, this time drawing home on an Samantha Hudson RBI walk. Thomas evened the game in the seventh on an RBI groundout, then edged ahead 3-2 in the eighth with an RBI single.

Down to their final three outs, the Warriors pushed across the tying run in the bottom of the eighth. Khyla Brannon scored on Eliana Hernandez's RBI sacrifice fly to center, sending the game to the ninth tied 3-3.

Thomas used the extra frame to break it open with a six-run top of the ninth, highlighted by a three-RBI triple as the Night Hawks pulled away for the 9-3 final.

Hernandez, Bentley, and Hudson each drove in a run for Webber in Game 2, while Chloe Rayner worked 8.0 innings in the circle before Webber turned to relief in the ninth.
