Warriors Battle New College of Florida in Five-Set Match

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University women's volleyball team battled New College of Florida in a five-set contest Wednesday night at Jessica Costanzo Court, with the Warriors ultimately falling 3-2 (21-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 15-5).

Webber opened the match with a strong offensive performance, recording 19 kills in the first set. The Warriors hit .341 as a team and used a balanced offensive attack to take the opening frame, 25-21.

New College of Florida answered in the second set, taking advantage of a strong offensive showing to even the match at one set apiece with a 25-15 victory.

The Warriors responded in the third set and regained the momentum. Webber recorded 15 kills while hitting .250 and held on for a 25-23 victory. The win gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set.

Webber continued to battle in the fourth, but New College of Florida pulled away late to take the set, 25-18, and force a deciding fifth set.

The Warriors were unable to regain their offensive rhythm in the final frame, as New College of Florida took the fifth set, 15-5, to secure the match.

Hailey Mull paced the Warriors with 14 kills, while Yaleesmar Rivera Rosa followed with 12 kills. Cristina Marrero added nine kills and hit .222, while Brianna Adams contributed six kills with a .294 hitting percentage.

Katelyn Bobo recorded a double-double with 25 assists and 25 digs to lead the Warriors in both categories. Zoey Dallas added 19 assists to help guide the Webber offense.

Defensively, Alejandra Aponte led Webber with 18 digs, followed by Kalyn Morgan with 17 and Samantha Gomez with 15. At the net, Cassandra Kendall recorded three blocks, while Mull and Marrero each added a block.

Webber finished the night with 54 kills, 49 assists and 74 digs.

Up Next: The Warriors hit the road Thursday, Oct. 1, traveling to Graceville, Fla., to take on Baptist University of Florida. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
