Warriors Fall to Fire

Lakeland, FL – The Webber International Women's Basketball team dropped a tight 77-71 SUN Conference decision to Southeastern University on Saturday evening  at The Furnace. The Warriors moved to 10-11 overall (5-6), while the Fire improved to 20-3 (10-1) in conference play.

Webber controlled much of the first half, edging in front 19-17 after one quarter and taking a 36-34 advantage into the break. The Warriors were efficient offensively throughout the night, sharing the ball well and consistently getting quality looks around the rim.

The difference came out of halftime, as Southeastern flipped the game with a 24-14 third quarter to grab a 58-50 lead heading to the fourth. Early in the final period, the Fire stretched the margin to 11 (61-50 at the 8:30 mark), capitalizing on extra possessions and trips to the free-throw line.

Webber didn't fold, chipping away down the stretch and making it a one-possession game late. Renae Brant buried a three-pointer with 22 seconds left to pull the Warriors within 74-71, but Southeastern answered at the stripe to close it out.

Isabel Negron and Jaiden Ross paced Webber with 20 points apiece, with Negron going 8-for-10 from the field. Camryn Patterson stuffed the stat sheet with 6 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks, while Brant finished with 13 points. As a team, Webber shot 52.7% (29-of-55) and totaled 22 assists, but Southeastern's edge in three-pointers (8) and points off turnovers (20) proved decisive. Grace Field led the Fire with 22 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals, while Mya Herman added 21.
