Late Free Throws Lead Warriors Over Mariners

Brunswick, GA – The Webber International Men's Basketball team picked up a hard-fought SUN Conference road win on Saturday, edging Coastal Georgia, 68–67, in Brunswick, Georgia.

The Warriors set the tone early behind efficient perimeter shooting, building a lead as large as 10 in the opening half and taking a 35–29 advantage into the break. Webber knocked down timely triples to keep Coastal Georgia at bay, finishing the night 10-of-22 (45.5%) from beyond the arc.

Coastal Georgia made its push after halftime, outscoring Webber 38–33 in the second half and repeatedly attacking the paint (a 32–18 edge in points in the paint). But Webber countered with extra possessions on the glass, pulling down 12 offensive rebounds and turning those into 17 second-chance points—a difference that loomed large in a one-point game. Deon Brown hit the final two free throws to seal the victory for the Warriors

Deon Brown led the Warriors with 22 points, drilling six 3-pointers, while Landon Tillman had 21 points, adding four rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Coastal Georgia was paced by Aamir Mack (17 points, 10 rebounds) and Preston Crisp (14 points, six rebounds), but Webber's combination of outside shooting and work on the offensive boards helped the Warriors escape with the win.

After the win, Head Coach Gabriel Rutledge praised his team's defense in a tough road matchup.

"Great, tough win. We knew our defense was going to have to travel tonight, and it did. Our guys were locked in, communicated, and competed for 40 minutes in a tough road environment. We also did a great job on the glass, finishing possessions and creating extra opportunities for ourselves. I thought we showed a lot of maturity tonight we didn't flinch, stayed connected, and made winning plays when the game demanded it. Our guys are really starting to believe. Go Warriors.
