Softball take 3 out of 4 from Spring Break Doubleheaders Heading into SUN Conference Play

Babson Park, FL - The Webber International Softball team hosted Calumet College of St. Joseph and Trinity Christian, (Ill.) on Monday and Tuesday, taking three of four to finish off the slate before SUN Conference play begins.


Game 1: Calumet (IN) 5, Webber International 3

Calumet Takes Control Early and Holds Off Webber's Late Rally

Webber International took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, as M. Muriel drove in T. Romero with an RBI single. However, Calumet quickly answered in the second inning when K. Slack doubled in a run to tie the game 1-1.

In the third, Calumet broke the game open, capitalizing on a two-out rally. Slack came up clutch again, driving in two more runs to give Calumet a 3-1 advantage. The lead extended in the fourth with A. Morales and K. Lovelace each bringing in runs, making it a 5-1 game.

Webber fought back in the sixth inning, with S. Proctor and J. Bland each delivering RBI hits, cutting the deficit to 5-3. However, Calumet's defense closed out the final inning, stranding a runner on base and holding on for the win.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Webber International overcame an early 2-0 deficit, using a game-changing rally in the fifth inning to defeat Trinity Christian 6-3.

Trinity Christian struck first in the top of the first with RBI groundout from K. Koontz and an RBI single from A. Fluder, taking a 2-0 lead. Webber quickly responded in the second inning, when M. Muriel hit an RBI triple, followed by a groundout from R. Lamoureau that tied the game at 2-2. L. Watkins then delivered an RBI single, putting Webber ahead 3-2.

Trinity tied the game in the fifth after an error allowed Z. Fleischau to score an unearned run, but Webber responded immediately. With two outs and two runners on base, H. Saylor crushed a 3-run triple, giving Webber a 6-3 lead that they would not relinquish.
