Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Softball team welcome cross lake rivals Warner University to Nancy Nichols field for a midweek SUN Conference series. The Warriors, winners of three straight, took down the Royals in all three games, securing the conference sweep, with starting pitcher Taylor Thomas securing two wins and her 300th career strikeout.
Game 1: Webber International 5, Warner University 1
In the series opener, both teams struggled to get on the scoreboard early, with solid pitching and defensive efforts dominating the first three innings. Webber International broke the deadlock in the fourth inning when T. Romero doubled to bring in R. Lamoureaux, followed by J. Bland's two-run homer to put Webber up 3-0.
Webber International continued to control the game, adding two more runs in the sixth inning with T. Romero scoring on a wild pitch and S. Proctor driving in J. Matthews with a single to extend the lead to 5-0.
Warner University managed to break the shutout in the seventh inning when M. Vargas hit a sacrifice fly to bring in R. Camp, but that was all the offense they could muster. Despite Warner's attempts to rally, Webber's pitching held strong, securing the 5-1 victory.
Game 2: Webber International 8, Warner University 5
The second game of the series started with Webber International striking early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first off an RBI single from T. Romero and a sacrifice bunt from S. Proctor. They exploded in the third inning, plating five runs highlighted by a two-RBI double from J. Bland and an RBI double from S. Proctor, pushing the lead to 7-0.
Warner University responded in the fourth inning with a three-run surge, including a crucial two-RBI double from R. Camp. In the sixth inning, G. Derstine cut the deficit to 8-5 with a two-RBI double after Webber tacked on one more run earlier. However, Warner couldn't generate any more offense, as Webber's bullpen closed the door, completing the 8-5 win to go up 2-0 in the series.
Game 3: Webber International 4, Warner University 1
The final game of the series saw Warner take a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as T. Mooring delivered an RBI single to bring home D. Martin. However, Webber International quickly answered back in the bottom half with a groundout RBI from J. Bland to tie the game at 1-1.
After four innings of deadlock, Webber International broke the tie in the sixth with a clutch two-RBI double from H. Bellamy, followed by an RBI single from R. Lamoureaux, giving them a 4-1 lead. Warner was unable to mount a comeback as Webber completed the sweep with a solid pitching performance to secure the series.
