Babson Park, FL - The Webber International Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Georgetown College Tigers for a Wednesday Matinee game. Goals were aplenty for both teams, but the Tigers got the last laugh as the Warriors fell 21-18 at home.
WIU struck first with Bryce Gerber scoring the opening goal, but GC immediately responded with Madison Diaz converting a free position shot to tie the game at 1-1. The teams continued to trade goals, with Gerber scoring her second for WIU, while GC answered with a man-down goal from Melanie Wieland and another from Hannah Voss, giving GC its first lead at 3-2. GC capitalized on WIU's penalties, extending their lead with a third straight man-down goal from Wieland to go up 4-2. WIU fought back, as Gabriella Isgrigg netted two quick goals to tie the game at 4-4. A man-down goal from Gerber put WIU ahead 5-4, but GC stormed back behind goals from Diaz and Wieland, retaking the lead 6-5.
The second half started with another strong push from GC, as Voss and Lair each scored, extending the lead to 8-6. Wieland capitalized on a man-up opportunity, making it 9-6 before WIU answered with three straight goals, including two from Gerber, cutting the deficit to 9-8. GC took control in the next stretch, scoring five of the next seven goals, with Madison Diaz and Hannah Voss leading the charge, as they built a 14-10 advantage. WIU refused to go away, as Gabriella Isgrigg and Gerber continued to pressure GC's defense, closing the gap to 15-13. GC's offense exploded late, with Wieland, Lair, and Gilbert scoring three straight goals to put the game seemingly out of reach at 21-15. WIU made a last-minute push, as Gerber added three more goals, cutting it to 21-18, but GC's defense held strong, preventing any further damage.
