Westfield, IN – The Webber International Men's Lacrosse team finished up their Indiana trip against the Concordia Ann Arbor Cardinals on Thursday morning. The Warriors and Cardinals were locked at 4-4 after the first quarter, but Webber outscored Concordia 15-8 in the next three quarters to win the game 19-12 and start the year 4-0.
Connor Herring scored the first goal for Webber after a save by starting goalie Luke Secreti. Herring was assisted by Nick Sheaffer. Concordia scored soon after, but Riley Small counteracted that with a goal of his own, making it 2-1. The Cardinals scored the next two goals but a man-up goal from Philip Scopano made it 3-3 Webber. Sheaffer scored to make it 4-3 with an assist from Jeremiah Loo. The Cardinals tied it up at 4-4 right before the quarter break.
Concordia started the second quarter with two straight goals before Gabriel Secreti scored two of his own, with assists from Joshua Colon-Prinzo, and Small, making it 6-6. Bentley King regave the Warriors the lead with a goal. Loo scored next for Webber to make it a two point lead, but Concordia answered right back, making it 8-7. Dillon Ziemba scored next for Webber and L. Secreti made four straight saves to lock the Cardinals out of the goal. Sheaffer tacked on one more goal before the half, making it 10-7.
Luke Pallone started the second half on a bang, winning the faceoff, picking up the ground ball, and scoring, making it 11-7. The Cardinals scored three straight to bring their deficit to one point, but Colon-Prinzo and Loo reextended the lead back to three making it 13-10. Loo scored again on a man-up opportunity with an assist from Small, while Sheaffer found the back of the net again off the feed from King. Webber headed to the final frame leading 15-10.
Herring, Loo, and Small all scored again in the fourth quarter, as their goals brought the lead to eight points at 18-10. Liam Murphy checked into the game and made multiple saves. Concordia was able to score two more times, but Tay'Quan Bryan caused a turnover after another Murphy save, keeping Concordia out of the net one last time. Samuel Henry put the final nail in the coffin, scoring with one second left on the clock, as Webber took down Concordia 19-12.
Loo and Small led the team with five points apiece. Loo with four goals and an assist, and Small with two goals and three assists. Sheaffer had four with a hat trick and an assists, while Herring had two with his two goals. Pallone led the team with eight ground balls, while also winning 21 faceoffs for the Warriors. Raja Brooks had four ground balls. Cameron Paleski led the team with three caused turnovers, while Ziemba added two. In goal, L. Secreti had nine saves and the win, while Murphy added four.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, February 22nd when they travel to Savannah, Georgia to take on the SCAD-Savannah Bees.
