Warriors Drop to Fire in Close Matchup

Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Men's Basketball team welcomed Polk County rival Southeastern University to Babson Park on Saturday afternoon. Despite a halftime lead, the Fire came out hot in the second half, taking the lead and keeping it as the Warriors fell 78-74.

Montrell Bell and Khalyl Simmons each sank a three to start the scoring for Webber. Jordan Golden and Orlando Thomas had four apiece before a free throw from Simmons and another two from Thomas. Jovon Rosse was fouled on a fast break make, sinking the and one free throw. A free throw from Bell and a three from Rosse had the Warriors up 26-20 with six minutes left in the half. Golden, Simmons, and Thomas scored the final 10 points for the Warriors as they took a 36-32 lead into the half.

Zachary O'Callaghan got the scoring started in the second half. However, the Fire scored eight straight before two free throws from Thomas made it 40-40. Once Southeastern took the lead they never gave it back. Simmons and Golden scored next for Webber to keep the deficit close. A three from Gabriel Sorensen cut the deficit to two, and layups from Golden and Rosse put it at one. Thomas scored nine of the next 11 points for the Warriors, but Webber still found themselves down 74-68. Threes from Simmons and Thomas were the final points for Webber as they fell 78-74.

The Warriors will be back in action on Monday, February 3rd when they host the Florida College Falcons in non-conference action.
