Warriors Fall in Heartbreaking Fashion After 88th Minute Goal

Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Women's Soccer team rallied from a two-goal hole to take a late second-half lead, but New College of Florida answered with an immediate equalizer and an 88th-minute winner as the Warriors fell, 4–3, in Sun Conference play. Ariana Suarez scored a brace around a Tatum Moore equalizer, while Pia Grosse supplied the lone assist.

NCF grabbed an early edge when Abigail Hansen struck in the 8th minute, and the visitors carried the 1–0 lead into halftime despite Webber's first-half pressure (five shots, two corners) and repeated offside flags that cut promising buildups short. Keeper Francesca Magnotti made her lone save of the day in the 24th to keep it a one-goal match at the break.

The second half turned frantic. NCF doubled its advantage through Naomi Woerner at 47:57, but Webber stormed back: Suarez halved the deficit at 52:24, and moments later the Warriors had a golden chance from the spot—Thea Roque's penalty at 57:19 was saved by Avaya Wright. Undeterred, Webber kept pressing, and Moore buried the equalizer at 64:56 before Suarez put WIU ahead 3–2 at 71:17 on a tidy finish set up by Grosse. The lead lasted only 14 seconds, as NCF's Summer Steele leveled at 71:31, and Woerner delivered the decisive goal at 87:39.

Key turning points

  • PK denied (57'): With momentum building at 2–1, Roque's penalty was saved—an inflection point before WIU's brief lead.
  • Two-goal surge (65'–71'): Moore's leveler and Suarez's go-ahead finish capped a furious spell.
  • Immediate reply (71:31) & late winner (87:39): Steele's instant equalizer and Woerner's second sealed it for NCF.

Despite the result, Webber's attack showed bite—three second-half goals and a 14–6 shot margin—providing a foundation to build on as Sun play continues.
