Warriors Drop to Lions

Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Warriors Women's Basketball team fell to SUN opponent Florida Memorial University in a challenging matchup, losing 76-51. Despite a competitive first half, the Lions' depth and dominance on the boards proved to be the deciding factors.

The first quarter began with both teams battling for control, with Webber shooting an efficient 46.2% from the field. J Curry and Renae Brant led the charge, combining for 10 points in the quarter. Florida Memorial, however, capitalized on offensive rebounds, scoring 18 second-chance points throughout the game. The Lions ended the first with a narrow 17-16 lead.

In the second quarter, Webber's shooting cooled, hitting just 30.8% from the floor and going 0-for-4 from three-point range. Florida Memorial used a balanced attack, led by Makayla Transou, who scored 8 of her game-high 21 points in the first half. The Lions outscored Webber 13-11 in the quarter, taking a 30-27 advantage into halftime.

The third quarter saw Florida Memorial take control, shooting 55.6% from the field and attacking the paint with authority. Transou continued her strong performance, while Ebony Black-Smith added key baskets. Webber struggled at the free-throw line, converting only 5-of-10 attempts, and committed turnovers that led to easy points for the Lions. Florida Memorial extended their lead to 58-42 by the end of the third.

In the final quarter, the Lions sealed the game, using their bench to contribute 26 points overall. Webber fought hard, with Cintia Lorena scoring 6 of her 8 points in the fourth, but Florida Memorial's relentless rebounding and consistent scoring from players like Kamesha Moore, who finished with 13 points, secured the victory.

Key performers for Webber included Curry, who scored 10 points, and Brant, who added 12 points and 4 steals. Lorena chipped in with 8 points and 3 rebounds off the bench. For Florida Memorial, Transou led all scorers with 21 points, while Agar Farres Garcia dominated the boards with 11 rebounds.
