Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Women's Volleyball ushered in a new era at the Sabbagh Center Wednesday night, as the court was officially named the Jessica Costanzo Court in the Sabbagh Athletic Center as the Warriors hosted the Warner Royals. The Warriors took care of business against their rivals, christening the new court with its first victory in a 3-0 sweep.
Webber got ahead early in the first set, scoring first points of the match on a service ace from Alanys Rodriguez. Delanie Johnson and Savanna Wilhite both picked up kills while Nadia Reid added her own service ace to force the Royals into a timeout. The Warriors continued to push their lead as Johnson got an ace of her own and Kaylee Hunt joined the action with a kill. An attacking error from the Royals gave the Warriors an 16-8 lead, forcing Warner into using their second timeout. Webber scored four of the next five points to take a 20-9 lead. The Warriors were able to take care of business as a block from Rylee Bolser ended the set with the Warriors winning 25-15.
The second set was a much closer affair. Reid and Hunt each had kills to help tie it at 2-2. Reid was able to score on a three-point run with two kills and a block to give the Warriors an 8-5 lead. The Royals were able to tie it at 8-8 and both teams proceeded to go back and forth. With the Warriors down 14-12, Webber went on a 6-0 run capped off by two service aces from Johnson, making It 18-14. The Royals were able to tie it at 20-20, but blocks from Wilhite and Johnson gave the Warriors the lead for good. Webber only needed three of the next six points to win the set 25-23.
The third set was similar to the second one. A kill from Wilhite got the Warriors on the board to help them take a 3-2 lead. Warner took a lead but Webber was able to tie it back at 8-8 thanks to a service ace from Hunt. The Warriors began to pull away after this, with a block from Wilhite and Daphne Wibranowski and a kill from Wibraknowski capping a four-point run. With the score at 12-9, Webber scored six of the next 11 points to take an 18-14 lead. Both teams split two-point swings until the Warriors took down the Royals 25-20 winning the third set and the match 3-0.
Reid led the team with nine kills, while Johnson added eight. Wilhite had five blocks, with Johnson picking up four and Bolser having three. Alanys Rodriguez led the team with 18 assists, while Abby Leonard had nine. Abigial Baxter led the team with nine digs.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, September 14th when they host the Keiser Seahawks on the Jessica Costanzo Court in the Sabbagh Center.
