Babson Park, FL - The Webber International Women's Volleyball team competed in a neutral court game at Florida Memorial University against the University of Mobile Rams. Although each set was determined with 6 or fewer points as a gap, the Warriors were unable to take advantage and fell to the Rams 3-1 in four sets.
The Warriors took the first points of the match after an attacking error by the Rams. Webber would fall behind quickly, but a kill from Daphne Wibranowski stopped the run at 12-6 Rams. The Warriors stayed diligent, as a string of errors from the Rams put Webber behind by four, 15-11. The Warriors would again get it within four points as kills by Savanna Wilhite and Cam Bendel put the score at 22-19. Mobile would then score the last three points, ending the set at 25-19.
Webber again took the first points of the set, and were able to take an early 4-3 thanks in part to a kill from Nadia Reid. Neither team was able to pull away from the other as the game sat tied at 11-11 after a kill from Johnson. The Warriors began to pull away and had a lead as large as four points multiple times at 17-13 and 19-15. The Rams did not back down as they were able to retie the game at 20-20. An ace from Reid and a kill by Johnson had the Warriors at set point 24-22. However the Rams were able to tie it then take the lead to take set two 27-25.
Abby Baxter picked up a kill to open set three. The Warriors would be down early again, but a five point swing gave them a slim 9-8 lead. The set stayed in a close race, with Webber holding a 16-13 lead. The Rams came to life after taking a commanding 22-18 lead over the Warriors. Webber would not give up however as starting down the face of a sweep, the Warriors took the last four points to take the set 26-24.
The Warriors began set four down, quickly falling into a four point deficit 6-2. The Warriors brought it within three at 8-5 with a kill from Reid. Kaylee Hunt and Johnson sandwiched a four point run to make it 11-9. Hunt and Reid went back to back in kills to keep the Warriors within two at 16-14. This would be the closest Webber got for the rest of the set as they were out scored 9-4 to lose the set 25-18 and the match 3-1.
The Warriors will be back in action on Sunday, September 1st as they play Florida Memorial at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
