Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Women's Soccer team opened up the 2024 season with a non-conference matchup against the NAIA #8 Keiser University Seahawks on Thursday afternoon. Despite a good performance from Freshman Goalie Juliana Grider, the Warriors fell in the opener, 5-0.
Grider recorded 12 saves on the day for the Warriors, with her first coming in the 5th minute. Keiser would dominate field position, keeping the ball in the Warriors' half for most of the first, scoring in the 10th minute to make it 1-0. An errant corner kick by the Seahawks allowed for Rylee Bolser to take the first two shots for the Warriors. Grider made another save, but a Seahawks corner paved the way for another goal, making it 2-0. Grider would be put to the test one more time in the first half, saving her fourth shot of the half.
Two more shots were saved by Grider in the 49th minute, before Bolser was able to take another shot at the goal, missing wide. The Seahawks responded with their third goal of the game, to make it 3-0. Rikke Olufsen got in on the action with a team save, stepping in the way of a Keiser header. Grider had two more saves in the 66th minute bringing her total to eight. The Seahawks scored off another corner, to make it 4-0 in the 68th minute. Bolser had a header in the 75th minute go towards the goalie, but it would be saved, and end up being the Warriors last offensive shot of the afternoon. The Seahawks scored their final goal in the 86th minute, to take down the Warriors, 5-0.
Bolser took the only four shots of the game for the Warriors, while Grider finished with 10 saves. The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, September 14th when they travel to Miami Gardens to take on the Florida Memorial Lions to open SUN Conference play.
