Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Warriors men's volleyball squad celebrated their senior class on Saturday afternoon in their last regular season game of the season against the Warner Royals. The crooked lake rivalry brought another great game between the Warriors and the Royals, but the Warriors proved to be the superior team routing the Royals in three straight sets for their second sweep of their crooked lake rivals on the season.
The Warriors would start out the first set on an attacking spree with four kills from
Thoralf Schmelzer, two from
Carson Barnes and
Ayden Keeter and one each from senior Gunter Perea and
Daniel Beacham. The Warriors with an early 10-3 lead over the Royals continued relying on their electric offense with Beacham adding in another kill and senior
Kevin McCarthy getting his first kill of the afternoon. The Royals would call a timeout with the Warriors leading 16-7 and they would go on a 5-0 run before two more kills from Barnes and McCarthy would help the Warriors wrap up the first set 25-18.
Set two was a similar story for the Warriors as it was a tighter back and forth battle in the beginning portion of the set but kills from Schmelzer and senior
Andrew Nielsen helped turn the momentum leading 9-5.
Senior Cesar Remedios would have himself a day on the defensive and offensive side of the ball for the Warriors totaling two kills and six blocks, and would help play a critical part in the Warriors run through set two to increase their lead. Schmelzer would throw on two kills and an ace as the Warriors saw their lead jump to 19-12. Nielsen and Schmelzer would combine for three more kills to finish off set two 25-19 to take a 2-0 lead over the Royals.
The Warriors started off set three a little slower falling behind 4-1, but they would not trail for long with Schmelzer and Barnes throwing in more kills to their tally. Barnes and McCarthy would both finish with six kills through the match, and Schmelzer would lead all Warriors with 12 kills. It would be the Warriors offense in set three that led them to a dominant victory racking up another eight kills and finishing with 36 in the match. The Warriors would end the match with two service aces, the first from Joan Galmes and the last point coming from a Remedios service ace to finish the 2024 season 15-1 and put the finishing touches on a fantastic regular season finish for the Warriors senior class.
The Warriors will look forward to
