Babson Park, FL – The 5th-ranked Webber International baseball team broke out the brooms as a 11-5 win allows the Warriors to sweep the Bobcats. With this, the Warriors move to 11-5 in Sun Conference play with two more SUNC series to go.
Jonathan Bautista secures his seventh win of the season, as seniors Thomas Nelson, Hunter Youngblood, Brighton Taylor and Gabriel Dorsey all spent time on the mound. Bautista struck out two batters, and only allowed four runs.
Joseph Becker had an incredible game, going 3-for-4, and drawing a walk. Christian Campbell added three hits, two runs, and two RBIs. Gabriel Cruz took two walks and a hit to bring around three runs for the Warriors.
The Warriors struck first as Brodey Neveker singled down the left side to lead off the bottom of the second inning. Becker took a walk to put two on, before a sac bunt for Jonathan Vega put moved them into scoring position. A sac fly for Cruz gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead as Neveker made his way home. Campbell followed with a single through the right side, scoring Becker. Camren Carroll took a hit by pitch to keep the momentum. Ian Kalman singled through the right side advancing Deven Tedders and scoring Campbell. A wild pitch and a walk for Milliner loaded the bases, before the Bobcats got the third out of the inning.
A walk and double scored two for the Bobcats in the top of the 3rd inning. Webber responded with three runs of their own to extend the lead to four. STU brought two more across in the top of the 5th inning.
Becker led off the bottom of the 5th inning with a single through the left side before back-to-back wild pitches put him on third base. Cruz followed with a walk to put runners on the corners. A bunt for Campbell scored Becker. Cruz took advantage of a Bobcat error to put the Warriors up four. Another STU error scored Campbell, before the Bobcats could get the third and final out of the inning.
Thomas Nelson came in for relief in the top of the 6th inning, as a ground out and double play put the Warriors back on offense.
Ryan Recio extended the Warriors' lead to six with a solo homerun over the rightfield wall. Webber added another run in the bottom of the 7th inning off the bat of Milliner.
Hunter Youngblood entered the game in the top of the 8th inning. A ground out to Recio, looking strikeout, and fly out to Kalman keep the Bobcats out of the base path.
STU added one final run in the top of the 9th, but the Warriors were able to get the third out to sweep the series.
Webber will be back in action next weekend as they head on the road to Miami Gardens, FL to take on the Lions of Florida Memorial. First game is Thursday, April 11th at 1:00 PM.
