Run Rule and Two Run Double help Warriors Take Series From Bobcats On Senior Day

Babson Park, FL – The Warriors took the series over the #19 Bobcats with a run rule and a 2 RBI double from Johnkiria Bland. With this, Webber moves to 21-26 on the season, and picks up their fifth conference win of the season.

Jenna Chaudoin started in the circle of game one for the Warriors. She pitched a clean first inning, as after a groundout and a walk, she got the third batter to ground into a double play, ending the top of the first after three batters. With two outs in the first, Thalia Romero doubled down the left field line, an error on a Brandy Barquin batted ball would put runners on the corners, and Nicole Gutierrez loaded the bases with a hit by pitch, but a strikeout would end the Warrior threat.

Chaudoin would have another clean second inning, with a lineout, a ground out and a strikeout. Aubrey Brown and Kimmie Cheung both walked to start the bottom of the second. A single from Gracie Lopez loaded the bases for the second straight inning. A walk from Genesis Aviles started the scoring from the Warriors, and Romero hit a sacrifice fly to score another run. Barquin singled into center field for the third run but would be out on the ensuing ground ball with the Warriors up 3-0.

The third inning was uneventful for both teams, as St. Thomas hit three straight popups, while the Warriors went down in four batters, with Cheung hitting a single.

The Bobcats went down 1-2-3 in the fourth inning with two strikeouts and a ground out. A single up the middle from Aviles set the table for Romero, who rocketed a ball over the fence for a two-run homerun. Barquin and Gutierrez would both get on with one out, but two strikeouts ended the fourth with Webber leading 5-0.

Chaudoin would again retire the side in three batters in the top of the fifth, picking up another strikeout. Cheung walked to start the bottom of the second inning, before moving to second on a Miranda Muriel sacrifice bunt. Lopez singled up the middle before advancing to second on the throw, with Cheung moving to third. Aviles would hit a ball towards second base, and a throwing error allowed both Cheung and Lopez to score. A double from Romero would be all that was needed as Aviles raced around the bases scoring the eighth run as the Warriors walked off the Bobcats 8-0 in game one.

Chloe Rayner started game two for the Warriors and immediately had a 1-2-3 inning with a single, a double play, and a ground out. Webber would also go down 1-2-3 in the first.

St. Thomas would get another base runner in the second inning, who would be advanced to third on a one-out sacrifice fly, a popout would end the Bobcat threat in the second. The Warriors went down quickly in the second inning, going down in order with three groundouts.

A one out double in the top of the third for St. Thomas would quickly be erased as another double play would be turned by the Warriors to get out of the inning. Alexi Watkins would be hit by a pitch in the bottom half of the third, but stealijng second would be the only offense the Warriors could muster, as a ground out would end the inning.

St. Thomas would go down in order in the fourth, with Rayner picking up a strikeout. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Barquin and Haley Saylor would each single to put runners on first and second. A pinch hit double to center field from Bland provided the Warriors with their only two runs of the game, which happened to be the game winner.

The Bobcats had a similar situation to the Warriors in the top of the fifth, with two on and two out, but a lineout would end the inning. The Warriors went down in order in the bottom of the fifth, still clinging to a 2-0 lead.

After a flyout and a ground out, St. Thomas was again able to get two runners on with a single and a walk. Thomas would come in to pitch in relief for Rayner, and after issuing a walk, got the last out of the inning on a popout. Barquin would reach second on a two-out error from the Bobcats but would be unable to score after a ground out to the pitcher.

St. Thomas went down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh and the Warriors completed the SUN Conference series upset with a 2-0 win.

The Warriors will be back in action on Friday April 26th when they head to Miami Gardens to take on the Florida Memorial Lions in the SUN Conference Season Finale.
