Babson Park, FL – The Webber International softball team split on the day against the SEU Fire, taking game one of the day. The Fire battled in game three to take the series, as Webber improved to 3-11 in SUNC play.
Webber managed to get on base four times in the first seven innings, but the Fire defense kept the Warriors from scoring. Taylor Thomas pitched eight shutout innings, picking up seven more strikeouts.
Due to the extra inning rule, WIU started with Miranda Muriel as a runner at second base. Nicole Gutierrez singled to left field, advancing Muriel to third. A one-out single to right field from Samantha Hudson to score Muriel and walk off the 1-0 win.
In game two, the Fire came out with a vengeance, scoring two quick runs in the top of the 2nd inning. SEU brought in six more runs over the next four innings to take the game 8-0.
The Warriors will be back on Tuesday, April 16th as they are set to host Florida National in a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.
