Babson Park, FL – The No. 12 Warriors added another win as they defeated Morningside 4-3 on Friday afternoon. With this, Webber moves to 20-3 on the season and 4-0 in SUNC play.
Brayden Matthews got the start as he pitched 6.1 innings and notched four strike outs. Seth Lovell pitched 1.2 scoreless innings for his second win of the season. Danny Rodriguez garnered his third save of the year with a blank inning of work.
Bryan Morales led the Warriors offensively as he went 2-for-3 and had a walk. Jonathan Vega got his first start of the season as he added a hit and a run to the board.
Matthews got to work in the first inning as he struck out two and had one pop-out to put the Warriors on offense. An error put Ian Kalman on second base with one out. Ryan Recio joined Kalman with a five-pitch walk. Brodey Neveker singled to right center to bring in Kalman and give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
A double play from Richard Rodriguez to Recio got the Warriors out of the top of the 2nd inning ahead. A walk and a single put two on as a two-out single through the right side for Kalman brought another run in. Recio followed suit with an RBI single through the middle to make it a 3-0 ball game.
Another double play kept the Mustangs from scoring in the top of the third inning. After three scoreless innings, Morningside brought a run across in the top of the 6th inning to cut Webber's lead to two. MU kept Webber from scoring and put up two runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to tie the game. Seth Lovell then came in and got the final two outs to give the Warriors a chance to respond.
Tyren Milliner led off with a walk and advanced to second base off of a sac bunt from Neveker. Morales singled past the pitcher to put runners on the corners. Josh Blackmore notched an RBI sac fly to give the Warriors a one-run lead going into the eighth inning.
Lovell managed another scoreless inning before Danny Rodriguez came in to pitch in the 9th inning. D. Rodriguez worked quickly to get two outs, before the Mustangs got another hit. The Junior was unfazed as R. Rodriguez got the final out of the inning.
Webber will be back in action on Sunday, March 10th as they are set to host Aquinas College for the last game of this spring break series. First pitch is scheduled for 10 AM.
