Warriors Hang with #1 Lawrence Tech

Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Women's Lacrosse team hosted the Reigning National Champion Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on the Warrior Turf Field Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors hung around with the Blue Devils all game, but ultimately fell 10-9. 

Bryce Gerber scored the first goal for the Warriors from the free-position and Kaitlyn Patterson scored from the free-position as well, making it 2-0 Webber four minutes into the game. Natalie Baumgarten scored next for Webber and the Warriors led the #1 Blue Devils 3-0. Jordyn Davidson picked up a save in the first. The Blue Devils got on the board with two quick goals. Davidson had another save before Lawrence Tech was able to tie it up heading into the second quarter 3-3. 

The second quarter was a defensive battle as neither team was able to get past the other's defense. Gerber was finally able to give the Warriors the lead again off a pass from Makayla Senter. Lawrence Tech tied it soon after after a yellow card on the Warriors. Webber and Lawrence Tech headed into the second half tied at 4-4. 

Gerber scored twice towards the beginning of the third quarter, once on a man-up opportunity and once while the Warriors were man-down, making it 6-4. The Blue Devils got one back with the Warriors still man-down. Gerber scored again off an assist from Patterson, as the Warriors led 7-5 heading to the final frame.  

The Blue Devils scored fast and early in the fourth quarter, taking an 8-7 lead five minutes into the quarter. Gerber was able to find the back of the net to tie it at 8-8. Courtnie Couch scored for the Warriors off an assist from Gerber to take a 9-8 lead for the Warriors. Lawrence Tech was able to tie the game again at 9-9 with eight minutes left in the game. Davidson made two more saves but with a minute left the Blue Devils were able to take the final lead as Webber lost 10-9. 

Gerber led the team with seven points, off a double hat trick and an assist. Baumgarten and Patterson each had two for the Warriors. Couch led the team with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Patterson added four ground balls, while Alia Loydd had three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Davidson had 15 saves on the afternoon crossing the 400 career saves mark. 

The Warriors will be back in action on Friday, March 8th when they host the Bethel University Pilots at 11 AM on the Warrior Turf Field.
