Miami Gardens, FL – The Webber International Women's Lacrosse team traveled to Miami Gardens Thursday evening to take on the St. Thomas Bobcats in a SUN Conference matchup. The Warriors played tough but were unable to stop a final push from the Bobcats, falling 14-13 on the road.
Webber would find themselves down first as St. Thomas would score first. Ayame Macedo would tie it up five minutes into the game. The Bobcats would take the lead soon after, but goals from Cheyenne Burton and Kaitlyn Patterson gave the Warriors a 3-2 lead. Bryce Gerber extended the lead with a goal of her own. Patterson would get on the board one more time in the first before the Bobcats got one as well, as Webber took a 5-3 lead into the second.
Patterson picked up another goal to start the second. Gerber then scored to straight to give the Warriors an 8-3 lead. Courtnie Couch scored the final goal of the second for the Warriors before the Bobcats got three unanswered goals to head to half with Webber leading 9-6.
Neither team would be able to score for much of the third quarter, before St. Thomas came within two on a goal. Hailey Leavines and Gerber quickly negated that goal and added another to the lead, making it 11-7 Webber. The Bobcats scored three straight as the Warriors held onto an 11-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats tied the game in the fourth quarter, making it 11-11. Gerber and Couch would each score once more giving the Warriors a 13-11 lead, but that would be all they could muster, as the Bobcats were able to tie it with two minutes left, and then take the lead with 25 seconds left. The Warriors would get one final shot off but were unable to score, dropping the game 14-13.
Gerber led the team with six points, on five goals and one assist. Patterson had five, on three goals and two assists. Alia Loydd led the team with six ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Asiah Dewberry had four ground balls and two caused turnovers as well. In the goal, Jordyn Davidson had 13 saves.
