Waleska, GA – The Webber International Men's volleyball team took their undefeated squad back up to Georgia for another conference matchup against the Reinhardt Eagles for the second time this season. The Warriors handled the Eagles in four sets in their first faceoff, but it was a different story this time as the Eagles protected their home court and defeated the Warriors 3-0 to hand them their first loss of the 2024 season.
The Warriors would be plagued by errors through the majority of the match, combining attacking errors and service errors to let the Eagles build early leads in all three sets. The Warriors found themselves within striking distance in the first set with the score even at 12-12 after a Gunter Perea kill, but the Eagles would put together two 4-0 runs throughout the rest of the set to help them take advantage of the Warriors mistakes and claim set one 25-19. With the Eagles taking the first set, the Warriors would come out strong in the second set with an early 6-1 lead forcing an Eagles timeout behind kills from
Andrew Nielsen and
Thoralf Schmelzer. The Eagles would battle back and level things off at 11-11 before once again going on a run late in the set. The Eagles once again rattled off a 3-0 and 4-0 run late to push another set out of reach for the Warriors taking
a two sets to none lead 25-16.
The Warriors would find themselves in very unfamiliar territory being down 2-0 after two sets for the first time this season. They would once again come out strong to start the set behind kills from
Daniel Beacham and
Carson Barnes helping them to an early lead 4-2. A service ace from the assist savant,
Ayden Keeter, who finished with 23 assists, would give the Warriors their largest lead of the set at 10-7. The Warriors would be unable to hang onto another early lead and the combination of Warrior errors and the potent Eagles offensive attack would lead to the first Warriors loss of the 2024 season as they would drop set three 25-19.
The Warriors will have an immediate chance to rebound from their loss with a double header tomorrow facing off with Life University at 12 PM and Talladega College at 2:30 PM in Marietta, GA.
