Miami Gardens. FL – The Webber International men's basketball team's historic season ended as they fell to the Masters in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament. After a strong first half. The Mustangs pulled away to take the 90-77 win and advance to take on the St. Thomas Bobcats on Saturday, March 16th at 6 PM.
Cooper Peterson led the team offensively as he went 6-13 and totaled 19 points. The junior added three rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Eden Holt notched 16 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and two steals. Zachary O'Callaghan had another double-digit day as he netted 12 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, and a block.
Jordan Golden garnered a double-double as he totaled 11 points and 10 rebounds. The junior also added two assists to his resume.
Peterson got things started as he sunk back-to-back threes to put the Warriors up 6-2. O'Callaghan and Orri Hilmarsson extended the lead to eight before the Mustangs responded. Peterson knocked another triple to make it 13-4, four minutes in.
The Masters went on a 13-9 run before a layup from Golden kept the Warriors ahead 24-21. Holt, O'Callaghan, and Golden notched the next nine points for the Warriors as Webber trailed three with four minutes to go. Free throws from Dante Sofia cut the deficit to 11 heading into the break.
The Warriors opened the second half with the same fire, and Hilmarsson sunk a triple followed by a layup from Golden to close the gap to eight. Webber went on a 13-9 run over the next four minutes, including a dunk from Sofia.
Sofia got another dunk with over a minute left to cut the deficit to 18. The Warriors scored eight unanswered points in the final minute from the hands of Sofia and Peterson.
The Warriors end the season 20-11 and 7-7 in Sun Conference play, including a SUNC quarterfinal win and notched their first NAIA National Tournament bid in program history.
