Miami Gardens, FL – The Webber International Women's Basketball team traveled to the Fernandez Family Center to take on the St. Thomas Bobcats in the SUN Conference Tournament Quarterfinals. The Warriors fought hard but fell to the Bobcats 78-55.
Jaida Burgess started the scoring off for the Warriors, starting the game off with a layup. Jermasia Klopsis had the next two buckets to give Webber a 6-2 lead. Samantha Pacheco assisted the last bucket of the quarter for the Warriors, as Burgess scored again and then hit the ensuing foul shot to make it 9-6 Webber. The Warriors would be shut out the rest of the quarter heading to the second down 18-9.
Janaina Goncalves broke the scoring drought for the Warriors off an assist from Jaiden Ross. A layup from Pacheco gave the Warriors a 25-13 deficit before Burgess went one of two from the line. Burgess would score again off an assist from Pacheco as the Warriors headed into the half down 31-16.
Burgess scored first in the third, making a layup and sinking the and one after she was fouled. Klopsis hit two free throws before Zeri Tyler went one of two from the charity stripe. Burgess scored the next four on a jumper and two free throws. Jasmine Henry and Triniti Lee each sank two from the line. Burgess and Nevaeh Hillmon scored the final four for the Warriors as they headed to the fourth quarter down 60-34.
Goncalves hit a corner three at the beginning of the final frame. Hillmon came down and sank a three of her own to shrink the deficit to 20, 60-40. Goncalves hit another three before Jourdan Johnson went one of two from the line. Henry sank a layup, and soon after Goncalves did as well. Henry and Hillmon made the next two baskets to bring the score to 73-52. Tyler hit one more three for the Warriors as Webber fell 78-55.
Burgess led the Warriors with 17 points, six rebounds and two steals. Goncalves had 10 points off the bench to go with three rebounds and one assist.
