Babson Park, FL - The Warriors hosted (RV) Grand View for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Webber got three runs on the board in game one before falling 8-3. A strong first inning set the Warriors up in game two, but they were unable to keep the Vikings off the board as Grand View took the game 5-3.
GAME ONE: ONE OUT RALLY NOT ENOUGH AS WARRIORS FALL TO (RV) GRAND VIEW
Jenna Chaudoin got the start for the Warriors are she pitched all seven innings and totaled one strikeout. Rachel Lamoureaux led the team offensively as she went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Chloe Rayner and Samantha Proctor both brought runs across to cut the deficit.
Webber had an excellent first inning as they were able to keep the Vikings off the board. The Warriors were unable to respond before the Vikings got two across in the top of the second inning. GVU scored four more in the top of the 3rd.
Paige Weinmann got things started with a double in the bottom of the third inning. Lamoureaux followed suit with an RBI double to bring Weinmann home before the Vikings grabbed the third out.
The Vikings added runs in the 4th and 5th innings. After an inning and a half of scoreless ball, Weinmann saw herself on base once again with a single past the shortstop. An error allowed Lamoureaux to reach first and advanced Weinmann to second. Alexi Watkins kept things going with a single to load the bases. Chloe Rayner brought in a run with a single to the left side. Proctor followed up with an RBI single to make it 8-3 before the Vikings got the third and final out of game one.
GAME TWO: WARRIORS STRONG START COMES UP SHORT AGAINST THE (RV) VIKINGS
Taylor Thomas got the start in game two against the Vikings. The reigning SUNC Freshman of the year pitched 7 complete innings and tallied six strike outs to leave the board empty for seven innings. Thalia Romero and Samantha Hudson led the team offensively. Romero went 2-for-three with an RBI, while Hudson went 1-for-3 with a 2 RBI double.
Thomas started off strong with a 1-2-3 first inning. Rachel Lamoureaux got things started with a lead off five-pitch walk. Haley Saylor advanced the runner with a sacrificial ground out. Genesis Aviles kept the inning alive as she was hit by a pitch to put two on the bases. Romero hit in the cleanup spot and brought home Lamoureaux to put the Warriors up. Samantha Hudson followed with a 2 RBI double to make it a 3-0 ball game.
The Vikings responded by scoring four runs in the top of the second. After a scoreless inning, Grand View brought in another run.
Romero led off the bottom of the 4th with a single down the left side. A sac bunt from Hudson advanced the runner to second before a double play cut the Warriors short.
The next three innings were scoreless as Saylor and Aubrey Brown combined for six outs.
The Warriors will be back in action on Tuesday, February 27th as they head to Melbourne, FL to play in the Space Coast Tournament.
