Canton, MO - The Webber International Women's Lacrosse team continued its trek around the country, as they traveled to Canton, Missouri to take on the Culver-Stockton Wildcats. The Warriors were dominant from the start, as
Kaitlyn Patterson's five goals helped the Warriors cruise to an 11-4 victory Thursday evening.
The opening draw control was won by the Warriors, who quickly got to work testing the Wildcats' goalie, as
Jun Saito ripped off two shots that were both saved. The Wildcats were able to break the opening tie, but that would be all they got in the first half. Starting Goalie
Jordyn Davidson would get her first save soon after, and a cause turnover by
Asiah Dewberry helped the Warriors get the ball moving.
Bryce Gerber got the Warriors on the board to tie it 1-1. Shots from
Ayame Macedo and
Reliza Ann Fitzpatrick helped the Warriors keep their foot on the gas, before Patterson found the net for her first goal, giving Webber the lead 2-1. Macedo would get one more shot off towards the end of the quarter but the Warriors would head to the second winning 2-1.
After winning the draw control to start the second quarter, Macedo ripped a shot past the goalie for her first goal of the evening. A green card on Culver-Stockton started a man-up opportunity for the Warriors, who immediately took advantage of it. Patterson scored again, off a pass from Gerber and the Warriors were quickly up 4-1. Multiple Wildcat turnovers allowed Webber more time on offense, and Patterson scored again, off another assist from Gerber. CSC was able to get another shot of, this one also saved by Davidson, before
Natalie Baumgarten scored towards the end of the half, off the assist from Saito, to head into halftime with the Warriors up 6-1.
The Warriors had a goalie change to start the second half, as
Hannah Register took over in goal for Davidson. Another turnover from the Wildcats set up another man-up goal for the Warriors, as
Makayla Senter found pay dirt to extend the Warriors lead to 7-1. Patterson and Senter both tried to score again, as their ensuing shots hit the post and were saved. The Wildcats were able to get a goal back after a Warrior turnover, but that was quickly negated by Macedo's second goal of the game, with another assist from Gerber, making the score 8-2. Patterson scored again in the third quarter, her fourth of the game, and Webber headed to the final frame up 9-2.
The fourth quarter started off slow, however, Culver-Stockton was able to bring the game within six on a goal. Patterson's fifth and final goal of the game erased that one soon after, making the score 10-3.
Asiah Dewberry scored the final goal for the Warriors. Webber would get a few more shots on goal throughout the game, but it was mostly quiet for the final nine minutes of the game, save for one more goal for the Wildcats. The Warriors took down the Wildcats 11-4 to start their season off 3-0.
Gerber led the team with six points with one goal and five assists. Patterson had five points all coming via goals, while Macedo had two. Defensively, Dewberry led with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senter, Hailey Leavines,
