Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors Use Huge Fourth Quarter to Dismantle Royals

Lake Wales, FL – The Webber International Women's Basketball team traveled across the lake to take on rival Warner University Wednesday night. After a tight game through three quarters, the Warriors outscored the Royals 25-9 in the fourth to claim a 76-59 victory over their rivals.

The Royals got things started with an 8-0 run before the Warriors started rolling. After Jaida Burgess checked in, she sunk a bucket to put the Warriors on the board. Jermasia Klopsis was responsible for four of the next six points scored for the Warriors to close the gap to three. Free throws from Pacheco tied the game at the end of the first quarter.

Webber opened the second quarter with 13-3 run with scores from a plethora of Warriors to gain a 10-point lead. The Royals managed to cut the lead to eight before a Pacheco layup kept the Warriors up double-digits late into the first half. Layups from Kaliyah Little and Jasmine Henry sent to the Warriors into the break up 10.

The Royals came back from halftime with a vengeance as they cut the lead to five before a Jaiden Ross jumper kept the Warriors up. A Warner three-pointer made it a four-point game halfway through the third quarter. Buckets from Little and Klopsis kept the Warriors ahead until the Royals grabbed the lead late into the quarter. The teams traded points until free throws from Ross put them up by one.

Little opened the fourth quarter with a layup to carve back some space. Free throws from Pacheco and a layup from Burgess gave the Warriors a five-point lead with seven minutes to go before Pacheco made a layup to extend the lead back to 10. Little with a shot coupled with another Burgess layup made it a swift 16-point lead with two minutes to play. The Warriors slowed their playing down until a foul on the Royals sent Burgess for two – one of which went in.

Warner responded by collecting a foul to also shoot free throws – both were made to keep the deficit at 15. Pacheco sealed the deal with a layup to boost the Warriors to 4-4 in conference play and 2-0 over the Royals this year.

Little led the Warriors with 18 points, while also pulling down seven rebounds and dishing four assists. Burgess was the next leading scorer with 17 points off the bench to go along with nine rebounds. Pacheco had 16 points and eight assists, including going 6-6 from the charity stripe.

The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, February 17th when they travel to Miami Gardens to take on the Florida Memorial Lions at 2 PM.
