Warriors Secure Crooked Lake Cup in Season Finale

Lake Wales, FL – The Webber International Women's Soccer team played in their last match of the 2024 season on Wednesday evening against their Crooked Lake rivals the Warner Royals. The Warriors looking to end their season on a high note would explode offensively for four goals on eighteen shots to take down the Royals for the second time this season with a final score of 4-2.

The Royals would only record three shots in the first half, but it was their offense that found the back of the net first on Wednesday evening. Off a pass from Kaylee Cooper, Jillian Johnson would send the ball towards goal in the 12th minute resulting in the Royals taking an early 1-0 lead. The Warriors would not go quietly into that goodnight and would have a resounding response with three straight first half goals. In the 19th minute, Solimar Hernandez would set up Olof Sigurdardottir for the Warriors first goal of the match and tie the score up at 1-1. Ten minutes later, Hernandez would find the back of the net herself on an assist from Yerika Pereira to put the Warriors on top 2-1. The Warriors offense would not stop there and find themselves with an advantageous opportunity off a Royal foul inside their own box setting up a penalty kick. Warrior captain, and senior, Thea Roque, stepped up to the spot and delivered in the 34th minute extending the Warrior lead to 3-1 into halftime.

The second half of action was 45 more minutes of heated rival play that saw both sides with chances on goal but not much scoring early on in the half. The Warriors, looking to push their lead even further, would find another goal in the 79th minute. Melissa Del Valle would help the Warriors bring home the bacon with her late minute goal giving the Warriors the 4-1 lead. The Royals would add on another last-minute goal from Johnson, but the game would already be decided, with the Warriors taking home the battle of Crooked Lake 4-2 and winning the season series 2-0. The final whistle blew concluding another Warrior Women's Soccer season with gratitude for another well fought season and hope for an even better season next year.
