Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Women's Volleyball team hosted the #10 St. Thomas Bobcats in a rescheduled SUN Conference matchup on Saturday morning. The Warriors played tough, never being out of a set, but ultimately fell to the Bobcats 3-0.
Kaylee Hunt scored the first points of the game off of a kill. Multiple Bobcat errors gave Webber a 4-3 lead, before kills from Daphne Wibranowski and Delanie Johnson put Webber ahead 6-4. Nadia Reid and Rylee Bolser secured a combo block before another kill from Hunt. Johnson and Wibranowski had the next two kills, before a combo block from Wibranowski and Bolser, and a kill from Reid had Webber up 16-14. The Warriors were then outscored 11-1 falling in the first set 25-17.
After the first two points of set two went to STU, Webber responding with four straight points, as Hunt picked up two kills and a service ace. Bolser secured a kill before Johnson had the next three for the Warriors, keeping pace with the Bobcats, down two at 11-9. Wibranowski, Hunt, and Johnson tried to keep the Warriors in it, but the deficit would grow too large as Webber fell in set two 25-19.
A kill from Kaylee Hunt and a service ace from Abigail Baxter had Webber up 3-2 in the third set. After St. Thomas scored seven straight, the Warriors kept chipping away at the lead. Johnson, Bolser, and Hunt brought the deficit to five at 11-6. After more kills from Hunt and Wibranowski, a service ace from Baxter brought Webber within four, at 17-13. The Warriors tied the game with multiple errors from the Bobcats and an ace from Johnson to make it 18-18. A kill from Hunt and an ace from Reid gave Webber a 20-19 lead. St. Thomas outscored Webber 6-2 in the final eight points, to take the third set 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Hunt led the team with 12 kills, while Johnson had seven. Bolser and Wibranowski each had two blocks, while Baxter led the team with 15 digs. Abby Leonard led the team with 12 assists, while Luci Marinella had 11.
The Warriors will be back in action on Tuesday, November 5th when they host the Florida College Falcons on the Jessica Costanzo Court at the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
