Sarasota, FL – The Webber International Women's Volleyball team competed in the SUN Conference Tournament Quarterfinals against the New College of Florida Mighty Banyans on Tuesday night. The Warriors played the Banyans for the second time in less than a week, but unfortunately the result was more of the same as Webber dropped to New College in four sets, 3-1.
Kaylee Hunt and Delanie Johnson scored the first two kills for Webber as they took an early 5-0 lead. Hunt and Johnson again each had a kill with Bolser joining the party as well to make it 11-7 Webber. Daphne Wibranowski got a kill, before two more from Hunt made it 14-11. Johnson, Hunt, and Wibranowski had Webber up by two at 19-17, before New College went on a five-point run. With their backs against the wall, Wibranowski had a kill with Johnson picking up three more to take the first set 25-23.
A service ace from Hunt helped Webber get ahead 3-0 in the second set. Johnson and Bolser each had a kill before a block from Nadia Reid and Bolser made It 6-4 in favor of the Warriors. Johnson, Reid, and Bolser had the next three kills for the Warriors. Bolser then went back-to-back before a Banyan attacking error tied the set at 14-14. Cintia Lorena and Hunt scored the final points for the Warriors as they fell in set two 25-18.
Reid got the first kill for the Warriors in set three, to bring the Warriors deficit to one, 5-4. Reid had another kill, before two more from Hunt, a service ace from Luci Marinella, and a kill from Johnson helped the Warriors keep their deficit down to five, 16-11. A kill from Wibranowksi and an error from New College were the final points for the Warriors in set three as they fell 25-14.
Hunt, Johnson, Reid, and Bolser each had a kill in the first five points, making it 8-5 in favor of the Banyans. Cam Bendel, Hunt, and Johnson each picked up a kill with a block from Johnson and Savanna Wilhite tying it at 10-10. A kill from Reid and a combo block from Reid and Bolser helped Webber take a 16-15 lead. Reid, Lorena, Johnson, and Hunt had Webber with a 21-18 lead. A kill from Johnson gave Webber set point at 24-21, but the Banyans stormed back to tie it at 24. Another set point came up for Webber after a kill from Bolser, but New College of Florida would seal the game on three straight points, winning 27-25, and the match 3-1.
Johnson led the Warriors with 14 kills, while Hunt had 10. Marinella led with 25 assists, and Abby Leonard added 14 of her own. Abigail Baxter led with 20 digs, while Hunt notched a double-double with 15.
