Miami Gardens, FL – The Webber International Women's Soccer team took the long trek down to Miami Gardens on Saturday morning to battle one of the best teams in the Sun Conference, the St. Thomas Bobcats. The Warriors, coming off their best showing on Wednesday afternoon's victory, continued their strong play, battling throughout the match and pitching a shutout against the Bobcats to earn the 0-0 draw on the road.
The Warriors defense and goalkeeper were the stories of Saturday's morning match against the Bobcats. Juliana Grider, the Warriors starting goalkeeper, recorded nine saves on the day, keeping the Bobcats at bay off their 23 total shots. The defense for the Warriors also had a major part to play in the shutout of the Bobcats, with Ella Campbell, Thea Roque, MaKenzee Feskanin, and Maeva Bachmann, who all played the entire 90 minutes of the match. The Warriors defense, and Grider would face 12 of those shots in the first half, with only two being on target. The defense would be crucial in keeping the Bobcats attackers off balance and forcing shots off target, relieving pressure off their goalkeeper. The Warriors offensive opportunities came from Solimar Hernandez, and Rylee Bolser, both players taking two shots and creating three goal scoring chances that the Bobcats were able to put a stop to.
The second half saw an uptick in the Bobcats offensive pressure with 11 more shots, and six on target requiring Grider to make the save. Although the Bobcats attack continued, the Warriors remained disciplined and committed zero second half fouls, showing their defensive integrity to hold onto their defensive shutout. The Warriors best goal scoring chance in the second half came right out of the gates, with Bolser taking aim at goal less than a minute into the new half, but
would be saved by the Bobcats keeper. After another half of stopping all Bobcats attacks, the Warriors would hold onto their second shutout of the season, and earn the draw, 0-0, on the road against the Bobcats.
The Warriors will return to Babson Park for their next match against the Southeastern Fire on Wednesday, October 30th, at 3:30 PM on the Warrior Grass Field.
