Warriors Fall to Buffs at Florida College Classic

Temple Terrace, FL – The Webber International Men's Basketball team competed on day two of the Florida College Classic, matching up with the Milligan University Buffaloes. The Warriors found themselves down early in the first half, but were unable to overcome it, falling to the Buffaloes 75-62.

Jerry Carraway Jr. scored the first two baskets for the Warriors, both from behind the arc, giving Webber a 6-4 lead. After a six-point run by the Buffs, Carraway Jr. and Gabriel Sorensen were able to tie it up at 10-10 with back-to-back makes. Another run by Milligan was broken up by a jumper from Sorensen and a three from Khalyl Simmons, with an assist from Zachary O'Callaghan. Simmons made another three while Jordan Golden sank one of two from the free throw line to cut the Warrior deficit to five, 24-19. With about five minutes remaining in the half, Orlando Thomas was sent to the line, making both shots, while O'Callaghan also got in on the scoring with a made jumper. Sorensen scored the last points for the Warriors as Webber went into the half trailing Milligan 34-25.

Webber scored six straight points out of the half, as Carraway Jr. made back-to-back jumpers, and Thomas went perfect from the charity stripe. A score from Ethan Taylor and a free throw from Carraway Jr. helped the Warriors cut their deficit to two points, however, the Buffs were able to reextend the lead on two straight makes. Thomas and Sorensen were able to bring Webber within one, with a two and a three, but Milligan responded by going on an 11-0 run over the next two minutes, before a jumper from Golden broke the run with 9:25 left on the clock. Simmons and Thomas each hit a three-pointer. Thomas and Carraway Jr. were both sent to the line, going Wendy's 4 for 4. Jumpers from Carraway Jr. and Simmons were followed two more free throws by Taylor. Simmons scored the final five points for the Warriors, as they fell 75-62.

Carraway Jr. led the Warriors with 17 points to go along with four rebounds and two assists. Simmons was the second leading scorer with 16 points off the bench. Thomas was the third Warrior in double digits with 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals.

The Warriors will be back in action on Tuesday, October 29th when they travel to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to take on the UFTL Eagles.
