Lakeland, FL - The Webber International University men's soccer team traveled to Southeastern University to take on RV Fire. The match did not come out in the Warriors favor as it resulted in a 3-1 loss. The Warriors' record moves to 2-6-2 overall and 1-4-1 in the Sun Conference.
Alex Tarway took the first shot of the match just four minutes in, but it went wide. The Fire retaliated back and attempted a shot of their own that was saved by Ben Parkinson. The match went back-and-forth for a little bit before Tarway, Gabe Shelton, and Anthony Avila all got a shot off each within one minute. Southeastern also shot the ball three times in a row, none of which resulted in a goal. It wasn't until the 25th minute that the Fire scored the first goal of the match. Southeastern did not let off the brakes as Parkinson denied five more shots from them. However, the next shot they took slipped by and the Fire's lead extended to 2-0. Not even three minutes later, the Fire capitalized off a penalty kick, which extended the lead to 3-0. The Warriors were able to get on the board with less than a minute until halftime with a shot that came from Arnor Magnusson.
The Warriors stayed strong in the second half and denied the Fire from scoring anymore goals on them. Southeastern was kept to just four shots in the second half by the defense; one of which Parkinson had to make the save for. The Warriors also attempted to decrease the deficit four times, but were unsuccessful. With no success from either teams in the second half, the score ended with a score of 3-1.
Parkinson spent the entire 90 minutes in the net making eight saves and denied the Fire from capitalizing on numerous opportunities. The Warriors ended the match with 13 shots total.
The Warriors come back to home turf Wednesday, October 4th, at 3pm to face off against Florida Memorial University for more Sun Conference action.
