Box Score West Palm Beach, FL. – The Webber International Men's Soccer team faced off against the Rocky Mountain College Battlin' Bears Sunday afternoon, for a neutral site matchup at Keiser University. After a back-and-forth game, the game ended in a tie 3-3 following a late equalizer.
The first half started off well for the Warriors. Goalkeeper Ben Parkinson got his first save in the third minute before both teams traded possessions in the field. Tyler Keating picked up a yellow card for the Warriors in the 18th minute before Parkinson made another save in the 23rd minute. In the 25th minute, following a foul on Rocky Mountain, Ruben Marquez lined up for a penalty kick and shot it past the Bears goalkeeper for the Warriors' first goal of the game, taking the lead at 1-0. In the 36th minute, Gabe Shelton had an opportunity to score, but his shot was blocked by the Bears' defense. In the 43rd minute, the Bears were able to find the equalizer after Parkinson made a save. The ball rebounded off Parkinson and the Bears were able to find the back of the net. The first half ended with the score tied 1-1.
The second half started off slow for both teams, Marquez had a shot high in the 54th minute before Ekil Prackel had his shot saved in the 57th minute. Parkinson saved one in the 58th minute and then another in the 60th minute. In the 63rd minute, Parkinson made another save, before the Bears were able to get another goal off of the rebound and take the lead 2-1. Gabe Shelton picked up a yellow card in the 70th minute before Gudmundur Boasson was able to break away and score the equalizer 37 seconds later. Parkinson made another save in the 71st minute as the Bears tried to retake the lead as quickly as possible. Rocky Mountain's Ryan Daniel was assessed a yellow in the 74th minute. In the 81st minute, Nik Resnik had a shot saved, and soon after in the 83rd minute, Shelton had a shot saved as well. While still in the 83rd minute, the Bears fouled the Warriors and Sebastian Lago stepped up for a penalty kick. Lago found the back of the net giving the Warriors a 3-2 lead with time winding down. The Bears did not back down however, and after a Warrior foul in the 89th minute, a penalty kick for Rocky Mountain tied the match at 3-3 before time ran out and the game finished in a tie.
The Warriors will be back at home on Saturday, September 9th at 11 AM facing off against the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzlies.
