Warriors fall in Crooked Lake Rivals in Fifth Set

Box Score Lake Wales, FL - The Webber International University volleyball team took on Crooked Lake rivals Warner University Royals and came out with a loss in the fifth set of the match. The Warriors took sets two and four and fell to the Royals in the first, third, and fifth set. Their record now sits at 6-6 overall and 1-2 in the Sun Conference.

The Warriors got the first point of the match and it went back-and-forth with points until Nadia Reid tied the game 3-3 with a kill that was set by Paysee Crow. The match was rather competitive as both teams did not let off the gas.Teodora Ranitovic made a big time block, which extended their lead to 9-4. Savannah Wilhite tallied a kill for herself, which kept the Warriors in the lead 15-13. Bailey Sikkema kept the lead for the Warriors with a set to Ranitovic for the kill and a score of 21-18. The Royals did not let this stop them as they kept decreasing the gap in the score and ultimately taking the set 26-24.

The Royals scored the first two points of the match, however the Warriors came back and Bailey Berger tied the game 2-2 with a service ace. Set two became another competitive set as the Warriors went back-and-forth until the Royals made a service error, which gave the Warriors a three point lead 8-5. Jaziah Anderson scored the tenth point for the Warriors with a set from Ana Clara Araujo. The Warriors took the momentum of the match and shifted it in their favor Crow tallied a kill for helself, which extended the lead for the Warriors 13-8. The Warriors nearly doubled the score against the Royals when Berger got yet another service ace, making the score 19-10. The Warriors ended up taking the second set 25-15.

After trading points, the Royals took set three 25-18. Reid and Anderson led the Warriors in kills for the set with six and four respectively.

The Warriors responded quickly by swiftly taking the first point of set four. Both teams remained competitive through the set by tying repeatedly. A kill by Cintia Lorena is just what the Warriors needed to coast through the set. Berger scored the 20th point for the Warriros with a service ace. Two kills by Reid provided insurance while a spike from Lorena ended the set 25-21.

The Warriors claimed the first point of the last set when Tisdale caused an attack error from the Royals. The Royals retaliated with this by scoring four points in a row before Crow set the ball to Anderson for the kill. The Royals went on another scoring streak again with three points before Ranitovic blocked an attempt from Warner, this brought the score to 7-3. The Royals momentum did not break as they got another six points on the board before Sikkema went in for the kill. The Warriors got off two more points before the Royals claimed another point. The Royals made two errors to give the Warriors two more points before the Royals got the win from a service error, ending the game with a score of 15-8.

The Warriors will take a break from Sun Conference play as they go up against Trinity Baptist College next Friday, September 29th at 7pm.
