Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors Suffer Defeat to STU on Senior Night

BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 16, 2023) - In what was Senior Night, the Webber International University men's basketball team took on St. Thomas University, who currently sit in second place in the conference, on Thursday night. The Warriors fought to get themselves back into the game but ultimately came up short, 68-57.

Webber's (15-12 overall, 8-7 SUN) offense struggled as they shot just under 30 percent from the floor and 26.7 percent from long-range. In comparison, the Bobcats (22-6, 11-5) were much more efficient, shooting 43.1 percent in total.

The Warriors fell behind early, 10-4, but quickly righted the ship as they went on a 7-0 run that was capped by a successful three-point shot from Tyrone Nesby IV to earn themselves the one-point lead. Trailing by two at 17-15, the Bobcats then caught fire and went on a 14-0 run over the next five minutes to establish a 12-point advantage. Once again Webber battled back to cut into the lead and reduce the deficit to six points, but the Warriors trailed by nine at the break.

The second half was more of the same as Webber was able to get back within six and eventually to within five at 47-42 thanks to a three-pointer by Jordan Golden from the top of the key. The Warriors kept it close for a bit but were unable to regain the lead as St. Thomas saw out its victory.

Nexby IV led the team in points with 17 followed closely behind by K'Shun Stokes with 16. Nesby IV added five rebounds and a block while Stokes contributed with seven rebounds, two assists and a steal. Golden ended with a team-high 12 rebounds and tied for the third-most points on the team with Eddie Davis with nine. Davis finished with five rebounds and led the team in blcoks with two. Chinecherem Anukaenyi contributed off the bench with four rebounds and a block to his credit.

Next up, the Warriors will travel to face Florida Memorial University in the regular-season finale on Saturday, February 18th at 4 p.m. Webber will look to complete the season sweep after defeating the Lions at home, 92-84, earlier this season.
