Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Women's Basketball team christened the new gym floor in the Sabbagh Center, hosting the 24th ranked Freed-Hardeman Lions. The Warriors played tough defense but were unable to tame the Lions, falling 51-34.
Triniti Lee opened the scoring for the Warriors, hitting a three-pointer off of an assist from Samantha Pacheco. Janina Goncalves hit the next basket again off the feed from Pacheco, before Pacheco took it to the rack herself to give Webber a 7-1 lead. Pacheco was fouled on a three-point attempt, nailing all three shots from the charity stripe. The Warriors racked up steals, as Jermaisia Klopsis, Jaida Burgess, and Pacheco all collected them as the first quarter ended with Webber leading 13-12.
Klopsis made the first bucket of the second quarter. Pacheco made another jumper to retie the game at 17. Burgess collected another steal, before Pacheco on a layup, with an assist from Jaiden Ross. Goncalves sank a free throw to end the first half with the Warriors leading 20-18.
Kori Wimberly was sent to the line in the third quarter, sinking both from the charity stripe. Pacheco made another basket, before Alisha Walker also got a steal. Klopsis made one more bucket in the third to bring the Warriors within five before the third quarter ended 33-26 in favor of the Lions.
Wimberly hit a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter. She then hit another jump shot to keep the Warriors deficit in single digits, 39-31. Klopsis would hit one more basket, and Pacheco would hit one of two from the free throw line to end the Warrior scoring. The game ended with a final score of 51-34.
Pacheco led the Warriors with 12 points. She added seven rebounds and three assists as well. Wimberly had seven points for Webber. She also had four rebounds. Klopsis had six points and three rebounds, while Walker had two points and seven rebounds.
The Warriors will be back in action on Saturday, December 30th when they take on the Shawnee State Bears at 3 PM in the Sabbagh Center.
