Warriors Face Off with #22 Bobcats in SUNC Semifinals

Miami Gardens, FL – The Webber International Women's Volleyball team competed in the Semifinals of the SUNC Tournament Friday afternoon. Matched up with #1 seed St. Thomas, the Warriors put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell 3-0.

Nadia Reid secured the first kill for the Warriors in set one. Her kill was followed by three errors from the Bobcats before Reid and Teodora Ranitovic combined for a block to make the score 10-5 in favor of STU. Kiersten Tisdale had a service ace to keep the Warriors within five, 12-7. A kill from Savanna Wilhite jump-started a four-point run for Webber, featuring two blocks from Wilhite and Bailey Sikkema, as well as a kill from Jaizah Anderson. Two more errors from the Bobcats would be the last points for the Warriors as they dropped the first set 25-15.

The second set started out in favor of the Warriors, as Reid and Tanasha Cooksey secured a block for the first points, before three errors by St. Thomas put Webber ahead 4-1. St. Thomas took a slim lead before Wilhite scored a kill to tie it 5-5. The Bobcats had multiple errors before Cooksey had a kill for the Warriors, bringing the deficit to five. Paysee Crow and Cintia Lorena went up for a combo block before Lorena also secured a kill. Crow and Wilhite secured a combo block, and soon after Crow secured a kill. The Warriors would score once more on an error as the Bobcats took the second set 25-18.

Cooksey and Sikkema got the first two kills for Webber in the third set. A kill from Crow tied the set at 6 apiece on the assist from Anderson. Both teams would go back and forth for the next few points, as Lorena, Cooksey, and Sikkema all picked up kills to keep the Warriors in the set 12-10. The Warriors would then go on a 9-1 run, featuring kills from Wilhite and Crow, as well as blocks from Anderson, Lorena, Crow, and Wilhite. This run gave the Warriors a 19-13 lead. Kills from Wilhite and Cooksey would be the final points for the Warriors as the Bobcats took the third set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

Cooksey and Wilhite led the Warriors with four kills apiece. Wilhite added five blocks while Crow had three. Reid, Lily Arnold, and Bailey Berger had five digs apiece, while Crow had 15 assists.

This was the final match of the season for the Warriors, as they will now wait to hear about their fate in the National Tournament. The Warriors thank all their fans for their continued support throughout the season.
