Warriors Finish Season on a High Note Against Gyrenes

Babson Park, FL. - The Webber International women's soccer team had their final home game of the season on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed in the Ave Maria Gyrenes for their final SUNC game. The Warriors closed out their season with a gritty and hard fought game against the Gyrenes and were able to come out on top 1-0 to finish out their 2023 season with a team victory.

The Warriors began their final 90 minutes of play with a spirited first half of play that began with a Cameron Laine save for the Warriors in the third minute to help stop the early Gyrene momentum. The first half would be won in the midfield with both squads unable to get past the back line of the opposing defense without any difficulty. The Gyrenes would record six first half shots to the Warriors four, but none of the Warriors attempts on goal would be on target. Laine would end the first half with two saves for the Warriors to keep the game level going into halftime after a back and forth 45 minutes of first half action.

Leah McDaid would get the second half started with a shot from outside the box, forcing the Gyrene goalkeeper to record her first save of the game in the 49th minute. McDaid and Guillen would combine for two more shots in the 58th and 59th minutes, making Emma Schweitzer, the Gyrene keeper, to make her second and third saves of the second half. The constant attacking pressure, combined with the Warriors playing with the wind to their backs in the second would help deliver them to the winning goal in the 66th minute. Maddie Manzke would run onto a beautiful through ball played by Deb Guillen and find the back of the net to push the Warriors on top 1-0. The Warriors defense would take control of the game for the remaining 24 minutes and seniors Becky Wilkins and Hannah Esson would lead the Warriors back line to keep the Gyrenes out of their offensive side of the field. The final whistle blew, completing the Warriors season with a 1-0 victory over the visiting Gyrenes.

After the game head coach Jack Paris said, "I just want to thank the seniors for their hard work and dedication, and the everlasting impact that they have had on this program and teammates".
